Special visitor to Primary 4B!

Hannah took a very special visitor into class last week - Pip - who was very cute!

As a result, Ms Rendall has decided she would like a class pet so she just has to persuade Mr Taylor this is a good idea!!

Skara Brae Ranger visit

Ooops - this post should really have gone up before the one about our Skara Brae visit but I'm sure that's not too important!  As part of our learning about Skara Brae we had one of the Rangers, Elaine, come into school and talk to us about it.  It was very exciting because she took along the box of replica artefacts for us to see.

We enjoyed learning about Skara Brae and seeing all the artefacts.

Skara Brae visit

Primary 4 had a busy trip to Skara Brae on Friday - although it was very windy it didn't rain and the sun even shone when we were out!  We managed to fit a lot into the day, including a trip to Skara Brae, the beach (where we built our own Skara Brae houses) and the Ring of Brodgar where we learned a few facts about it and played a game.

Hopefully everyone had a fantastic day!

Times table practice!

Primary 4B have started to learn more about multiplication and division this term and it is proving tricky!  We are focussing on the 2, 4 and 8 times tables this week and have been using games to help us with this.  One of the strategies we are trying to use is to double the 2x table to get the 4x table, and then double the 4x table to get the 8x table!  It is tricky but Primary 4B are amazing and working REALLY hard on this!

If you are looking for online games to try to help with this, please check out the "Useful Maths Links" a little bit down this page and you will find some fun activities to help you with your tables.

Primary 2 come to visit

We have been enjoying sharing our RME learning with Primary 2 this term.  We have been working together to learn the Easter story and were given the challenge of putting this into the correct sequence.  It has been very tricky but we have nearly completed this.

Independent learning

We are learning about Scottish history in the class this term and everyone has been very interested in this topic.  We were very impressed when Marcus told us he was researching Robert Bruce at home and was making a poster.  This is the final product - well done Marcus!

Farm visit

Primaries 4B and 4L were really lucky yesterday and went to visit Millburn Farm in Harray, where we learned lots of information about looking after sheep and cows, and about growing crops.

It would be good if you could add some information into the comments below to let us know what you were learning about Primary 4!

The Gruffalo's Bairn

Primaries 3 and 4 were very lucky this week and were given the opportunity to go to the Picky Centre and hear the Gruffalo's Bairn being read in Scots and Orcadian Language.  We also saw the animation of the story which was great!  Here are some photos of our trip, plus a video of the stories being read in Scots and Orcadian.  We hope you enjoy them as much as we did!

Burns Day

I know this is being posted a little bit late (very sorry) but we had a fantastic Burns Day on 25th January, complete with haggis and bag pipes!  We also read some of his poetry in class and Primary 4B did some singing of Auld Lang Syne!

Winter wonderland

Everyone in class has been working really hard to learn to play some Christmas music, which they played for Ms Rendall today.  Well done Primary 4 Bumblebees - it was fantastic!

Primaries 1-3 Christmas Show

We all had a fantastic treat on Tuesday morning when Primaries 1-3 let us watch their Christmas show.  It was so much fun and we all thoroughly enjoyed it.  We took some photos, and with permission from Primaries 1-3, we thought we would put them on our blog page (we had to wait until after both performances were over so we didn't spoil any surprises for mums and dads!).

Well done Primaries 1-3!

If you click on the link below you will be able to see them in action!

Constellations

As part of our space project, we have been working in groups to find out about constellations and what they are.  We are making a poster to show what we have found out and each group is going to make a presentation to the rest of the class tomorrow.  We will post the videos of our presentations when we have done them!

What do you think?

This is just a little reminder to ask if you can let us know what you think about what we put on our blog page.  One really simple option is to use the little tick boxes at the bottom of each post which you can select to show if you thought it was interesting, tricky, fun etc.  You can also leave us comments which would also be great and we will even try to reply!  If there is something you would like to know about, which isn't being added to the blog page, please let us know this too.

We will look forward to hearing your thoughts.

Thank you.

Holm Carol Service

St Andrews School had a lovely evening on Sunday in Holm, taking part in the Carol Service.  We know Primary 4B weren't taking part but we thought the singing etc was so good that we needed to share it with everyone!  Apologies about the quality of the photos and videos but Ms Rendall forgot her camera so was using her phone to record it!  You will find the link to the videos at the very bottom of this page (apart from Primary 6 which was really shocking quality so Ms Rendall has put the mp3 file on here instead so you can hear them at least as it was done beautifully!).
